Wonders- Balanced Literacy Curriculum designed to meet the needs of all learners. We have reading workshop and writing workshop, guided reading with leveled readers plus independent and group activities.
Daily 5- I have been implementing the Daily 5 in my classroom for 10 years now and absolutely love doing it. Daily 5 is a structure. In summary, it's what the other kiddos are doing when I am working with a reading group. Students choose which of the five they want to work on during each round. The five choices are: Read to Self, Read to Someone, Writing, Listen to Reading and Word Work.
SOR- I am researching and exploring Science of Reading. The Science of Reading research has shown that a child's brain needs to first know the different sounds in spoken language and then be able to connect these sounds to written letters and then blend the sounds to make words (decoding). I will build our phonics base, letters, sounds, and how to blend them and decode sounds in words. We will spend more time decoding HF words and why they have various spellings rather than just memorizing them.
